MEF Africa Day 2014

The first MEF Africa Day was held in Johannesburg supported by Samsung, and saw around one hundred industry leaders gather over three sessions for debate, dialogue, insightful presentations and constructive networking.

MEF Africa Report: Mobile Leaders Confident of Regional Industry Expansion

First announced at Africa Day in Johannesburg, MEF launched the second part of its three-country African Growth Market Study, which surveyed mobile business leaders in the region to deliver an industry snapshot of market confidence and key drivers for mobile content and commerce in Kenya, Nigeria and South Africa. Confidence across the continent was shown to be high with over two-thirds in Kenya (70%) and South Africa (68%) and almost all in Nigeria (93%) optimistic for mobile content and commerce revenue growth.

Report shows growth markets driving uptake of education apps [infographic]

This week saw the release of the latest report in MEF’s Global Consumer Insights Series, examining the prevalence of mobile educational products and services across 13 global markets.

Rimma Perelmuter, CEO at MEF said: “Mobile-first markets are clearly driving the uptake of educational apps. The nascent sector has also been quick to adopt engagement and business models from other app sectors with entertainment a key motivator then the growth of this market is set to continue.” We created this handy infographic to share the key findings.

MEF Connects São Paulo

Supported by Digital Virgo, TIMWE and Zed Latin America, MEF Connects São Paulo took place as part of Tele Viva Movel 2014 presenting a great opportunity for our LatAm Members to meet and network while focusing on the industry’s key business opportunities and concerns – enabling the mobile ecosystem to leverage the mobile device to drive customer acquisition, retention and conversion. It was a fantastic evening of networking, knowledge sharing and celebration.


Exploring the next generation of mobile privacy policy

This month, MEF Members, co hosts Dentons and a collection of US and European regulators, app developers and industry experts gathered at the 3rd Annual MEF Consumer Trust Summit to discuss the latest developments in the business critical issue of Consumer Trust, and how the greatest barrier to m-commerce can be responsibly overcome.

96% of the world’s mobile media users are downloading apps

We released the final report in the Global Consumer Insights Series this month, examining trends in the global app economy. Rimma Perelmuter, CEO of MEF, commented: “Apps are an essential part of consumers’ day-to-day life, regardless of gender, age, geography or device-type. While games and social networks remain dominant, MEF’s App Economy report highlights growth across all categories and engagement in growth markets that will continue to drive adoption worldwide to deliver new opportunities across new verticals such as money, education, health and productivity.”

Amazon Fire – a shop with a smartphone or a smartphone with a shop?

MEF members comment on the launch of Amazon’s first smartphone – the Amazon Fire. The company bundled free Amazon Prime as part of the phone package, signalling its intent to take more ownership of the m-commerce and streaming media space by guaranteeing free and speedy fulfillment of mobile purchases, free ebooks and access to a large library of films and TV shows.
