MEF Connects Dubai

MEF hosted the third annual MEF Connects Dubai supported by TIMWE and On Device Research. Held during GITEX Technology week the event brought together local and international members poolside at the Novotel World Trade Centre. MEF Connects was the highlight of a busy week which included a member-only steering committee with a sneak preview of the Middle East results from MEF’s forthcoming Global Consumer Survey which launches at MEF Global Forum 2014.


MEF Global Board Elections reflect growth and diversity of the mobile ecosystem

This month, MEF held the annual Global AGM in London where members gathered to elect the new Global Board for the 2014/2015 term. Candidates representing MEF’s regional chapters (EMEA, LatAM, Asia and NA) contested four seats on the Board, reflecting the organisation’s diverse membership and key focus areas in an expanded mobile ecosystem, which captures publishing, content, engagement, consumer trust, education and mobile money.


App Annie partners with MEF to highlight key growth markets for app stores

App Annie and MEF teamed up to publish a new report which detailed how the mobile infrastructure and rate of development in these countries are creating significant new opportunities for app publishers. Brazil, Indonesia, Mexico, Turkey and India are the next growth markets-to-watch for players in the mobile app economy, based on App Annie’s Intelligence data (which analyses app downloads and revenues across Google Play and the iOS app store),

The Global Mobile Money Landscape

The world of mobile money is an exciting but complex one. The sector has moved firmly into the mainstream with an ecosystem that captures stakeholders from innovative startups to established mobile payment companies as well as MNOs card companies, banks and device manufacturers. New services are continually being launched and trialed making this one of the most fluid and dynamic areas in mobile. MEF appoints new EMEA General Manager

In November, MEF appointed Sally Harvey as General Manager of its EMEA Chapter. Harvey joins MEF as an experienced mobile industry executive having held senior roles at the ISBA and most recently The Mobile Marketing Association (MMA) where she was Director of Membership Strategy for EMEA.

MEF Connects Africa

During AfricaCom, we hosted MEF Connects  Africa 2014 – an exclusive networking evening celebrating the amazing growth and innovation of mobile pioneers in the Sub Saharan Africa market, hosted at the Pepper Club in Cape Town. Supported by Mahindra Comviva, Mozilla, TIMWE and Viacom International Media Networks, the event brought together industry thought leaders for an evening of networking and discussion about Innovation in one of the world’s fastest growing economies.


MEF Global Consumer Survey 2014: growth economies driving mobile adoption

MEF published the results of its annual Global Consumer Survey at MEF Global Forum held in San Francisco which brought together nearly 400 global mobile leaders, the hottest start-ups and industry executives. The study now in it’s 4th year is the largest ever, surveying almost 15,000 mobile media users. Global mobile content and commerce activity grew slightly from 65 to 66 per cent in 2014, fueled by strong gains in growth markets. A lack of trust remains the industry’s biggest obstacle, increasing from 30 to 34 per cent year on year.

MEF Unveils Winners for the 11th Annual Meffys Awards

MEF unveiled the winners of its 11th annual Meffys – the international awards for measuring success and rewarding innovation across the mobile ecosystem.  The awards took place at a sell-out gala ceremony at The Westin San Francisco, hosted by CNET editor and broadcaster, Ashley Esqueda.

Categories such as Mobile Education, mHealth, and Big Data – new for 2014 – illustrate the diversity of the mobile landscape as it continues to expand across new vertical sectors in both growth and established markets.

MEF Members elect new North and Latin America Boards

We announced the results of the 2014 North America and LatAm board elections for the 2015/2016 term. In total ten new regional Board Directors were elected by MEF members during second annual MEF Global Forum in Silicon Valley. Each Board member will contribute to the direction of MEF, helping the organization to champion initiatives around mobile money, consumer trust, innovation and monetization across the international ecosystem.

Worldwide Consumer Trends: Who’s doing what on mobile?

MEF  published a handy infographic highlighting the different consumer profiles worldwide when it comes to mobile content and commerce. South Africans are ‘mad for’ apps, Brazilians are the biggest spenders in 2014 and Indian consumers lead the take up of education on mobile. The data is taken from MEF’s annual Global Consumer Survey which looks at the consumer behaviour patterns of almost 15,000 mobile media users in 15 countries across five continents, including mHealth, mobile education, banking, the apps economy and entertainment.


MEF identifies 10 key mobile trends for 2015

Starting the new year with its traditional predictions, MEF looks at the year ahead with ten key mobile trends that will shape the global mobile landscape in 2015. The predictions leverage the expert and diverse insights from MEF’s Global Board of Directors as well as its recently published fourth annual Global Mobile Consumer Survey which studied responses from 15,000 consumers in 15 countries to understand the major mobile content and commerce trends from wearables and mHealth to mobile payments, consumer privacy and trust. Vertical market ecosystems will drive the adoption of wearable technology.
