Industry Views: Will Yahoo’s Flurry acquisition help it face down competition from Google and Facebook?

Yahoo acquired mobile advertising and analytics firm, Flurry (rumoured to be somewhere between $200 and $300 million) sharpening the focus on the mobile advertising space, which, according to figures from eMarketer was set to reach $32.71bn in 2014, up 85% from 2013’s total. We asked the mobile community whether the move is enough to build Yahoos credibility in mobile as it tries to face down competition from the likes of Google and Facebook.  Here’s what they had to say.


Introducing Ricardo Bastos, MEF’s new general manager for LatAm

In August MEF appointed Ricardo Bastos as the new General Manager for the Latin America Chapter. He joins MEF as a seasoned mobile industry executive having held senior roles at Vodafone Group, Siemens as well as digital agency, Accedo Brasil. At MEF Ricardo will build on the platform that it has established as the regional hub for mobile content and commerce including its Unified Code of Conduct for Brazil, which defines guidelines for the content and promotion of all value added services (VAS) within this key mobile market.


Finalists announced for 11th Annual Meffys

MEF revealed the finalists for the 11th annual Meffys – the international awards for measuring success and rewarding innovation across the mobile ecosystem. The awards this year attracted over 250 entries from 30 countries across the 13 award categories, which includes new categories for mHealth, Mobile Education and Big Data. They are judged by an independent panel of 40 journalists, academics, analysts and VCs from around the globe.
