In our 5 minutes with profiles, MEF members talk about their business, their aspirations for the future and the wider mobile industry. This week, CEO David Lotfi introduces cyber security specialists Evina.

What is Evina?

We are an independent cybersecurity company with a unique focus that enables us to not only keep our clients safe but to do so in a disruptive new way that can power growth.

EVINA DCBprotect is the current star amongst our line-up of anti-fraud products. Installed on the payment page, it quickly detects fraudulent behaviour and warns the relevant Service Providers and MNO so that they can immediately spring into action and block fraudulent transactions before any damage is caused by their validation. It helps our clients to protect their brand image, decrease user complaints, develop a clean business with efficient billing flow and open new safe opportunities and partnerships.

Fraud on digital monetization market is on the rise and jeopardizes business opportunities for all players. Direct Carrier Billing is one of the markets that suffers the most and that is the reason why we started with it, but our goal is global: to sustain the market and unleash the true potential of a safe digital world

With its unparalleled accuracy, low false positives and super-fast response, DCBprotect allows our clients to better exploit Direct Carrier Billing’s unsurpassed conversion rates while enjoying the peace of mind that comes from an effective anti-fraud solution.

When did you launch and what growth have you seen?

Evina DCBprotect was a long time in the making: well over a decade of research and development in cybersecurity and mobile monetization to be able to launch in 2017 the most effective anti-fraud solution that totally secures the end-user payment flow on carrier billing.

It has answered a clear need by all players in the digital monetization market. Started with few key customers, today, we protect 12 millions of transactions each day across 60+ countries. Our clients are global, and we have helped them expand safely.

What are your main goals?

Fraud on digital monetization market is on the rise and jeopardizes business opportunities for all players. Direct Carrier Billing is one of the markets that suffers the most and that is the reason why we started with it, but our goal is global: to sustain the market and unleash the true potential of a safe digital world. Thanks to cybersecurity, we disrupt the market to foster business growth. We aim to provide safe prosperity globally to all.

Where do you see Evina in three years’ time?

Our passion for protecting the mobile ecosystem from fraud means we will work hard to improve our numbers and performance well beyond their current, already high levels.

Beyond that, we have some very promising products in development that could exceed the success of Evina DCBprotect. These new mobile payment and mobile advertising anti-fraud solutions are also heavily-focused on ensuring the future growth of our clients while protecting them at the same time.

What aspect of mobile is most exciting to you right now?

Definitely, mobile payment! The whole ecosystem of digital monetization is tremendously exciting, and the business potential for all players is huge. That being said, all of this excitement can turn into real business opportunities only if players are well-protected, with the right solutions backed by the right expertise. That’s the whole point of Evina!

What’s the most critical issue that will hit mobile within the next 12 months?

Lately, fraud has been exploding and is starting to impact the market exponentially. We all agree that end-users must be protected at all cost, but too many companies don’t realize that most customer complaints are the result of fraud and this, in turn, destroys conversion rates. Fraud has historically been addressed through compliance but this approach doesn’t work anymore because it is not legitimate players with compliance issues we are dealing with. The problem is hardcore international fraudsters engaged in actual criminal activity. It can only be solved through anti-fraud technology.

Apart from your own, which mobile companies are the ones to watch in the year ahead?

The question here is when and how blue-chip companies such as Microsoft, Amazon and others will disrupt the mobile payment market. This is an especially relevant question today, when these companies are working towards cloud gaming and eventually will be keen to grow in the digital monetization market where they will face others big companies like Apple. To what extent are these companies going to turn the system upside down? Where will those companies position themselves and how are other players going to keep their independence? Also, will telcos decide to be intermediated and how are they going to respond?

These are the key questions going forward. Evina is preparing for all of this and our goal is to be able to help all players to keep their independence.
