MEF’s Program Director for DCB Content & Advertising, Anzelle Robertson shares an overview of the recent MEF Leadership Forum Asia Pacific in Kuala Lumpur, where Members and guests gathered to discuss cutting-edge trends, challenges, and opportunities in the region’s rapidly evolving mobile-first economy.

On 23 January 2025, the MEF Leadership Forum Asia Pacific brought together industry leaders, innovators, and experts for an action-packed day of knowledge sharing, collaboration, and strategies shaping the future of the mobile and digital ecosystem. Hosted at Sam Media’s stunning office near KLCC Park.

It was my pleasure to open the day with a welcome word and thanks to our sponsors, before handing over to Sam Media’s CEO and Founder, Alexis Bartelds, to start the official program. Supported further by MEF’s Matt Ekram, the day covered an engaging range of relevant and industry topics.

Consumer Insights and Mobile Payments Trends

The forum began with an engaging presentation of MEF’s latest Consumer Survey, offering attendees a comprehensive look into emerging trends in mobile payments and the regional market landscape. The session highlighted how mobile payments are shaping consumer behavior and business opportunities across Southeast Asia.

Building Effective Partnerships in DCB

The first panel discussion focused on fostering strong partnerships between Mobile Network Operators (MNOs), service providers, and stakeholders. Industry experts shared best practices for collaboration and strategies for leveraging Direct Carrier Billing (DCB) to drive innovation and build sustainable revenue streams.

Customer Care in Digital Subscriptions

A standout session explored the often-overlooked role of customer care in the mobile content subscription ecosystem. Panelists emphasized how data-driven approaches and proactive strategies enhance user satisfaction, reduce churn, and create seamless subscription lifecycles.

The transformative potential of Rich Communication Services (RCS) took center stage in a discussion on how RCS is reshaping telecommunications in Southeast Asia. Topics included its ability to enhance consumer engagement, drive innovation in business communications, and tackle adoption and security challenges in the region.
