93% of MNOs Have Launched 4G… 55% Have Launched 5G

The number of Active Mobile Network Operators (MNOs) has contracted over the past 8 years as consolidation continues around the world, but the proportion of 4G and 5G availability has increased dramatically. A total of 614 (or 93%) of 660 active MNOs were offering 4G services at the end of 2024, according to the latest research from MEF Data, compared with 75% of 675 at the end of 2017. Over the same period, 5G rollouts have snowballed from just 2 in 2017 (0.3% MNO penetration), to 366 by end 2024 (55%). Full details of all sunrise and sunset information for each market worldwide will soon be available for members to dowload on our website.
