Proofpoint Report: Gen AI Adoption, Data Growth, and Insider Risks Are Converging to Create Unprecedented Data Security Challenges
Proofpoint released its second annual Data Security Landscape report, highlighting that organisations face growing data loss risks amid rising data volumes, AI adoption, and the use of AI agents in the workplace. Based on input from 1,000 security professionals across 10 countries and platform data, the report shows that many organisations lack the visibility and controls to manage this “agentic workspace,” where humans and AI systems collaborate. Increased data growth further strains already stretched security teams, intensifying challenges in protecting sensitive information.

“We’ve entered a new era of data security where insider threats, relentless data growth and AI-driven change are testing the limits of traditional defences,” said Ryan Kalember, chief strategy officer, Proofpoint. “Fragmented tools and limited visibility leave organisations exposed. The future of data protection depends on unified, AI-powered solutions that understand content and context, adapt in real time and secure information across both human and agent activity.”

The North Shore Submarine Cable Sets Sail: TELUS Kicks Off Deployment Work
TELUS has begun installing a 125 km submarine fibre optic cable from Sept-Îles to Sainte-Anne-des-Monts, providing vital redundancy for the telecommunications network between Baie-Comeau and Lourdes-de-Blanc-Sablon. The $20 million project, co-funded with the Government of Canada, creates a backup route to maintain services if the main terrestrial network on Highway 138 fails. The state-of-the-art cable will enhance network resiliency and support communities in navigating severe weather, with activation expected shortly after installation.

“This deployment marks the culmination of several years of careful planning and represents a major technological turning point for the North Shore,” said Nazim Benhadid, Chief Technology Officer of TELUS. “By anchoring this fibre optic infrastructure on the seabed, we are creating a robust communications path that will ensure essential service continuity, especially during extreme weather conditions. Beyond the technology, this project will guarantee citizens reliable access to essential services, education, and healthcare. Investing in the resilience of our networks means investing in the future and prosperity of our communities and our country.”
“The entire population of Quebec should have access to reliable and affordable high-speed Internet services, said the Secretary of State (Rural Development), the Honourable Buckley Belanger. The federal government’s investment, in collaboration with TELUS, will help improve network reliability for communities on the North Shore. The official start of this installation marks an important milestone in connectivity for these communities. The Government of Canada is proud to support this project with a financial contribution of up to $7.5 million.”
