Sinch Pioneers Next-Generation AI Communications with Model Context Protocol Implementation

Sinch AB has announced its adoption of the Model Context Protocol (MCP), positioning itself at the forefront of AI-powered customer communications. MCP is emerging as a key standard for enabling AI agents to perform tasks such as API calls and database queries. With this implementation, Sinch ensures AI agents can seamlessly execute communication actions across its global platform.

This move supports the growing demand for AI-driven customer engagement. Sinch reports that one global insurer now autonomously handles 80% of customer requests in over 125 languages, while a major retailer has tripled engagement by pairing conversational AI with RCS. As AI adoption surges—95% of businesses are using or planning to use it, according to Sinch’s latest report—the company’s platform is positioned to deliver scalable, intelligent customer interactions.

“AI is transforming how businesses communicate, and Sinch has the proven infrastructure to make it work at scale,” said Robert Gerstmann, Chief Evangelist and Co-Founder at Sinch. “With MCP, we’re codifying decades of communications expertise into protocols that AI agents can understand, teaching them the specific requirements, compliance rules, and best practices needed for each use case and region. What matters most happens behind the scenes; guaranteeing delivery, maintaining quality, navigating compliance, and preventing fraud. We’ve spent decades perfecting these operational fundamentals that make AI-powered communications actually work.”

mPOS Transactions to Grow by 83%, Reaching $5 Trillion by 2030, as POS Moves Beyond the Countertop

A new study by Juniper Research forecasts that global mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) transactions will reach $4.9 trillion by 2030, rising from $2.7 trillion in 2025. This growth is driven by the retail sector’s shift away from fixed checkout terminals and increasing card acceptance in emerging markets. mPOS systems, which use dedicated terminals connected to smartphones or tablets, are well suited for retail and hospitality settings. While soft POS—where payments are made directly on mobile devices—is expanding quickly by replacing cash in smaller transactions, mPOS is expected to remain strong due to its compatibility with higher-volume, structured retail use cases.

VP of Fintech Market Research Nick Maynard explained: “To capitalise on this growth, mPOS providers should consider partnering with local superapps, such as M-PESA in Kenya, to create POS solutions which work within wider ecosystems; maximising merchant appeal.”

JT’s Real-Time Scam Detection Adopted by UK High Street Bank Earns Industry Award

JT’s real-time scam detection system, Scam Signal, has won the Credit Award for Excellence in Fraud Prevention after being deployed by Barclays via FICO’s platform. The technology uses live telephony data to detect and stop social engineering scams in progress. On its first day in use, Scam Signal identified nine potential scam victims and is expected to cut card fraud losses by 6%. This is the first time real-time mobile intelligence has been embedded into a UK high street bank’s fraud systems. By connecting to JT’s network through an API, FICO can intervene immediately when high-risk calls are flagged.

Clare Messenger, Head of Mobile Intelligence at JT, said: “This award highlights the growing role of mobile intelligence in financial crime prevention. Scam Signal was designed to give banks a new layer of insight into scam activity. Seeing it delivers results at scale, and being recognised by the industry, is a significant milestone for JT.”

Nikhil Behl, President, Software at FICO, said: “We are immensely proud of this award and our work with JT and Barclays. Barclays wed customer commitment with innovation, and our partnership with them is producing fantastic results. In the fight against fraud and scams, the criminals are using the most advanced technology — banks must do the same to keep their customers safe.”

Direct-to-Device IoT Connections Reach 30 Million in 2030

A new report from Kaleido Intelligence projects that satellite direct-to-device (D2D) IoT connections will surge from under 500,000 in 2025 to 30 million by 2030. D2D technology enables standard cellular devices to connect directly to satellites, either using licensed terrestrial spectrum or NTN chipsets.

The current D2D IoT market remains early-stage, with Skylo emerging as a leader in the NTN segment. Today’s use cases—primarily in asset tracking, energy, utilities, and agriculture—focus on low-bandwidth, non-critical applications and account for about 60% of connections. Despite strong interest—51% of IoT enterprises and OEMs view D2D as a viable WAN solution—high airtime costs remain a key obstacle. The report emphasizes the need for business model innovation to unlock broader adoption and reach the technology’s full potential.

“In similar fashion to how OEM subsidies for satellite connectivity can drive traction in the smartphone market, the same principles can be applied to IoT”, remarked research author Steffen Sorrell. “Here, margins achieved through consumer data breakage can be leveraged to drive IoT airtime pricing down, and present a more attractive offer for volume.”

Tele2 reports second quarter 2025 results, including raised underlying EBITDAaL guidance

Tele2 AB reported solid results for the second quarter of 2025, with improved profitability and updated full-year guidance. End-user service revenue reached SEK 5.5 billion, representing 2% organic growth compared to Q2 2024, driven primarily by strong performance in the Baltics and the Sweden Business segment. Total revenue rose 1% organically to SEK 7.3 billion.

Comment from Jean Marc Harion, President and Group CEO of Tele2
“I am happy to say that the organisation has responded and adapted exceptionally well to the many significant changes we have introduced since December. This strong response has given us a flying start – especially in areas like cost control, simplification, and allocation of resources to where they matter most to our customers. Together with the reduction of our workforce, the optimisation and automation of processes and the renegotiation of major contracts, this effort explains our impressive underlying EBITDAaL growth of 15% in Q2.”

“The first phase of our transformation has been delivered in a record time, and I want to extend a big thank you to my colleagues for all the hard work. Our organisation’s ability to transform quickly makes us confident enough to raise our full year underlying EBITDAaL guidance to slightly above 10% growth (previously mid to high single-digit).”
