5G Almost Half of Cellular M2M Connections

The rollout of 5G mobile networks has driven a rapid expansion in the number of cellular M2M connections over the past 7 years to the extent that 48% of all cellular M2M is now housed on 5G networks. The number of 4G connections peaked in 2022, while 3G connections have virtually halved since their peak in 2018. Meanwhile, cellular M2M on 2G continues to grow and is now five times that of 3G.
