Identity Theft Hits 12% of Users
Reports of identity theft are on the rise with 12% of smartphone users surveyed by MEF now having had experienced of this pernicious act. Analysing data from 10 core markets tracked by MEF over the last five years, reports of identity theft were 9.3% in 2020, 9.7% in 2021, 12.2% in 2022, 11.7% in 2023 and 12% this year. The spike in 2022 was primarily due to a massive increase in reports from India, rising year-on-year from 13% to 20%. Full details are now available to download in MEF’s 10th Annual Consumer Survey.
