Global Media Consumption: How Gender & Geography Influence Mobile Reading Patterns

The appetite for reading in-depth stories, news or analysis remains deeply embedded in our mobile life, despite the fact that almost every imaginable digital delight is now available at our fingertips. A recent MEF survey reveals intriguing trends towards online reading across both gender and region, with an average of 41% of us now engaged in reading content via our mobile phones. Overall, individuals who identify as female are more likely to scroll stories than males or those that prefer not to say but, of the dedicated newshounds and bookworms, 67% of those that prefer not to say read via their mobile at least daily, compared with 41% of males and 38% of females. Meanwhile, MEF’s 11th annual consumer survey also shows that non-Europeans have slightly higher daily engagement (42%) compared to Europeans (36%), with Europeans more likely to scroll stories periodically than users in rest of the world.
