Rising Security Concerns Signal Key Risks & Opportunities For Mobile Payments Sector

MEF’s 11th Annual Consumer Survey shows concerns about payment security are rising, with 40% fearing stolen details in 2025 compared with 30% in 2021. Worries about unauthorised charges (38%), subscriptions (37%), and overbilling (34%) also grew – each rising 10 percentage points since 2021. Addressing these concerns could be a key differentiator in driving adoption and loyalty in an increasingly competitive landscape, with regulators and fintech leaders alike now racing to close gaps in authentication and billing transparency to protect everyday consumers.
