Event details

With over 6.6 billion users and 8 trillion messages sent monthly, mobile messaging is deeply integrated into our lives, underpinning communication, commerce, and security. However, this ubiquity has also made mobile messaging a prime target for fraudsters. Smishing, phishing, artificially inflated traffic, AI-powered scams, and account takeovers are just a few of the threats costing businesses billions and compromising the integrity of mobile payments.

The widespread fraud not only causes direct financial losses but also undermines consumer confidence in mobile payments, hindering the growth of this increasingly popular transaction method.

It’s time to take action. Join us at the ‘MEF CONNECTS Anti-Fraud forum, where leading enterprises, regulators & government agencies, mobile network operators, firewall providers, and anti-fraud solution providers will come together to tackle these challenges head-on.

Through thought-provoking discussions, interactive workshops, and networking opportunities, you’ll:

  • Gain crucial insights into the latest mobile messaging fraud threats and trends, including those specifically targeting mobile payments.
  • Discover innovative solutions from industry leaders and explore cutting-edge technologies designed to secure mobile transactions.
  • Collaborate across industry sectors to develop collective strategies and best practices for mitigating fraud risks in mobile payments.
  • Shape the future of secure mobile messaging and rebuild trust in this essential communication channel, including bolstering confidence in mobile payment systems.

The event will take place on the 10th of September at the BICS head office in Brussels. Thanks to BICS for hosting this event!

Don’t miss this opportunity to be part of the solution. Register today and help us make mobile messaging – and mobile payments – safe and secure for everyone.

  • Divya Wakankar, VP Strategy and Corporate Development – BICS

In today’s digital age, balancing customer experience (CX) and fraud prevention is a major challenge for enterprises. While digital channels enhance CX, they also expose businesses and consumers to fraud. To combat this, a multi-faceted approach is necessary, encompassing robust digital identity verification, real-time fraud detection and prevention, collaboration within the telecom ecosystem, customer education, and continuous improvement of security strategies. By prioritizing both CX and security, enterprises can protect their reputation, customer trust, and financial stability in the face of evolving fraud threats.

  • Jorij Abraham, Managing Director – GASA

The latest annual study by the Global Anti-Scam Alliance (GASA) and ScamAdviser, paints a devastating picture of the worldwide onslaught of scams, highlighting an urgent need for vigilance and preventative action. The Global State of Scams 2023 Report, which involved 49,459 people from 43 countries, indicates that a substantial 25.5% of world citizens lost money to scams or identity theft in the last 12 months, culminating in financial losses estimated at $1.026 trillion.

ia presenting false information directly at the device that captures the biometrics for identification / verification purposes (sensor, camera, microphone etc.) in order to impersonate a legitimate user (enrolled data subject) or evade from biometric recognition (obfuscate identity)

f.i. for the face we have identified
Print attacks: the instrument of attack is a printable object from a piece of paper to a T-shirt
Replay attacks: an electronic display is used to present an image or video
3D masks: a 3D object representing someone’s face is used
Morph: Two face images of different persons can be merged into one face image. Allowing both people in the original two images to be identified with the one morphed image
Extensive investigations have shown that even trained experts can rarely detect more than 60% of the manipulated photographs.
Make up: the natural face of someone is altered with make-up. It has been reported in the literature that facial make-up affects the accuracy of face recognition systems.
Researchers studied the vulnerability of face recognition to make-up for impersonation and demonstrated a relative success rate.
