Social Media Addiction in Numbers

Social Media Addiction in Numbers

Approximately 79% of all smartphone users have accessed a social media platform in the last 6 months, according to the MEF’s 11th annual consumer survey. The surprising number here is that 21% of users practise complete abstinence from social media, while the vast majority of people that use social media are checking updates on a daily basis. In fact, almost 90% of users access social platforms at least daily, with another 6-7% doing so weekly. The remaining 5-6% are infrequent users and only 1% demonstrate what experts call “digital restraint” using social media less than once every six months. The number reveals we’re living in an era where social media isn’t a hobby anymore; it has become as routine as checking the weather!
