The UK Data Economy After Brexit: Breakfast briefing

October 4, 2017 @ 09:00 - 11:00

On 4 October, Digital Catapult will launch its report “The UK Data Economy after Brexit”.

Please join Digital Catapult for a morning of discussion and debate with a panel of experts, on the “UK Data Economy after Brexit” report. Our report considers the opportunities and risks for the UK data economy post-Brexit, posing four extreme scenarios as a stimulus for discussion and debate.

The UK is the fifth-largest data economy in the world, valued to be worth €61Billion* in 2016. Yet organisations face uncertainty around our future engagement with EU Digital Single Market and the UK’s implementation of the EU General Data Protection Regulation, which will become law in the UK in May 2018.

Digital Catapult’s report considers the opportunities and risks for the UK’s data economy post-Brexit, and is the output of impartial research and discussions with industry experts, privacy professionals and data businesses.
It poses four extreme scenarios as a stimulus for discussion and debate, based on the ability for UK businesses to interpret and influence changes to data privacy law, and the level of access the UK might have to the currently nascent EU Digital Single Market. It considers what might be learnt from regulation and market access in the largest data economy in the world, the US. The report also makes a number of suggestions for policy makers and businesses to help the UK remain a major player in the global data economy.

We would be delighted if you could join us at our breakfast briefing to learn more from the authors and discuss the findings with a panel of experts, including Hal Hodson, Technology Correspondent from the Economist; Ann J. LaFrance, Partner at global privacy law firm Squire Patton Bogg; Guy Johnson, Head of Data Governance at Marks and Spencer; and Dr. Magda Osman, Queen Mary University of London. The event will be hosted by Dr. Jeremy Silver, CEO of Digital Catapult, with Lucie Burgess, Head of Personal Data and Trust, and Brian MacAuley, Lead Economist.

We hope you will be able to attend and look forward to your contribution to the discussion.
