IoT, Ethics, The Age-Aware Internet, and The Protection of Vulnerable Populations: Are You Ready? Have you heard? There is a push to make the Internet and Internet-enabled experiences age-aware by default and to ensure that we are all adequately protecting vulnerable populations (i.e., the neurodiverse, elderly, incapacitated, etc.). Case in point, in the U.S. alone, there are 144 children online privacy and safety regulations requiring some level of age assurance that are being introduced or reworked so that corporations and society writ large understand the proper handling of children’s digital identity, personal data, parental rights, and corporate obligations. Why? Because the vast majority of children today (individuals under 18) in the United States are using Smartphones, computers, and tablets, and are interacting with IoT devices on a daily basis. In the U.K., 83% of children lie about their age to access social media sites. Children are using these devices to declare their identity, exchange data, and interact with a wide range of services. These interactions, without the proper protections in place, expose children to many harms and limit their ability to access the benefits of countless services. We see similar stats throughout the developed world. But let’s remember, we must think beyond the law. Just because the law says it is ok or not, does not mean that it is actually appropriate or inappropriate to do; ethical considerations are just as important as legal ones. In this session, our speakers explore the ethical & cultural, regulatory, technological, and commercial considerations that executives and their companies need to keep in mind as they further their digital transformation and address new concepts like compliance, privacy, decentralized identity, Web 2.5 and 3.0, artificial intelligence, and more. This exploration will include a review of the ODI Data This Canvas, a deep discussion of child privacy requirements, parental controls, and new and emerging technologies. You’ll learn not only how to comply with regulations but also on how to do the right thing.

Smart, Secure, and Sustainable I/IOT From cars to cities, homes to shop floors, there’s almost nothing that can’t be improved upon with smart, connected devices. But to be truly “smart”, those connected things also need to be secure and sustainable to deliver on their promise of a better world. But without integrated security the very things we depend on to make our lives easier, could be turned against us in very dangerous ways; from poisoned public water systems, to disrupted pipeline & supply chains, and even compromised baby monitors! Operators and Administrators who are tasked with protecting critical systems have an arduous job but having the vigilance to defend against threats and limit downtime is not only essential for business but sometimes critical in protecting human lives. Join Diana Kelley, CISO for Protect AI, Inc., as she explains the 5 indisputable facts of I/IOT security and then provides practical guidance for deploying and protecting I/IOT devices smartly, sustainably and securely. Join us to learn about: o Importance of network segmentation o OTA updates o Controls for privileged and remote access o Issues with hard coded and default passwords o Hardware root of trust o Resilient ML and AI for I/IOT.
