BTS reinforces its commitment to innovation by reintegrating SONOC

Miami, FL – BTS (Business Telecommunications Services), a global communications technology leader, has announced the full reintegration of its subsidiary SONOC under the BTS umbrella, marking a strategic move to consolidate BTS’s technology and operations. This reintegration marks the full absorption of SONOC into BTS, allowing BTS to unify its expertise and teams to deliver advanced end-to-end solutions.

This integration under a single brand name is the continuation of a journey that began more than 20 years ago, when BTS made a bold decision that has guided its entire success story: to develop its own technology, tailored to its needs, rather than relying on external vendors. The result was the S1 Unified Platform, developed by technologists who understood both the business and the changing needs of global telecommunications. The platform has evolved into one of the industry’s most advanced communications management systems for voice, cloud telephony, fraud prevention, and messaging.

“By fully integrating the SONOC brand into BTS, we are not just embracing the future, but staying true to the vision that has been with us from the beginning,” said Luis Benavente, CTO of BTS. “We built the S1 Platform from the ground up to reflect our deep understanding of telecommunications and the innovation in our DNA. Now, by bringing together all our technical and commercial expertise, we can accelerate our innovation processes and deliver more complete, advanced and tailored solutions to our customers.”

New research reveals the growing significance of RCS messaging

Vodnjan, Croatia, 09 October 2024 – A new whitepaper commissioned by global communications platform Infobip shows Rich Communication Services (RCS) traffic will quadruple over the next five years. Data from tech analyst Omdia shows RCS Application to Person (A2P) and Person to Person (P2P) traffic will increase from 1.5 trillion messages this year to more than 6 trillion messages in 2029. As a result, A2P RCS will generate revenues of $4.2 billion by 2029.

Charlotte Palfrey, Senior Analyst, Advanced Messaging and Communications at Omdia, said: “RCS offers significant benefits for enterprises and telcos. Enterprises should leverage Gen AI to enhance RCS experiences, making campaigns more personalized, engaging and effective in driving conversion. At the same time, telcos must work with the messaging ecosystem to raise RCS awareness among enterprises and consumers. Additionally, telcos should utilize RCS internally for marketing and customer care functions to demonstrate RCS’s capabilities and benefits.”

RCS has many benefits, and with the Apple upgrade, it now has universal availability. Consumers do not need to download a chat app to send and receive photos or videos. Meanwhile, enterprises can take consumers through the entire customer journey from initial marketing pitch to purchase and support. This is also a significant opportunity for telcos to seize the benefits of RCS Business Messaging and deliver rich conversational messaging for customers.” Ivan Ostojić, Chief Business Officer at Infobip.

JT’s Scam Signal to Combat Fraud as New UK Banking Regulation Comes into Effect

In a significant move towards protecting consumers from financial scams, Jersey Telecom (JT) recently launched a pioneering product designed to shield customers from impersonation scams, particularly Authorised Pushed Payment (APP) fraud. The Scam Signal launch comes as the Payment Systems Regulator (PSR) is introducing a new UK regulation that mandates banks to compensate customers defrauded up to £85,000.

Scam Signal, developed in collaboration with Vodafone Carrier Services and global analytics leader FICO, is the first real-time application of telephony data used alongside customer and payment data to address APP fraud. This multifunctional tool allows businesses to protect their customers by swiftly identifying and blocking fraudulent bank transfers as they occur.

Clare Messenger, Global Head of Mobile Intelligence at JT Group, stated, “Our technology represents a breakthrough in fraud prevention, directly addressing the needs of financial institutions by tackling fraud at its source. It’s an essential component of JT’s Mobile Intelligence solutions, using telephony signals to spot the subtle signs of fraud that enable banks and other organisations to take proactive measures to prevent financial loss.”

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Oct. 8, 2024 – Proofpoint, Inc., a leading cybersecurity and compliance company, and Ponemon Institute, a top IT security research organization, today released the results of their third annual survey on the effects of cybersecurity in healthcare. The report, “Cyber Insecurity in Healthcare: The Cost and Impact on Patient Safety and Care 2024,” finds that 92% of healthcare organizations surveyed experienced at least one cyber attack in the past 12 months, an increase from 88% in 2023, with 69% reporting disruption to patient care as a result.

“Our third annual report was conducted to determine if the healthcare industry is making progress in reducing human-centric cybersecurity risks and disruptions to patient care,” said Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of the Ponemon Institute. “For the third consecutive year, we found that the four types of analyzed attacks show a direct negative impact on patient safety and wellbeing. The good news, however, is the healthcare industry seems to increasingly recognize the importance cybersecurity plays in patient outcomes; on average, IT budgets have increased, and fewer IT practitioners indicate that budget is a challenge in keeping their organization’s cybersecurity posture from being fully effective.”

“An effective cybersecurity approach centered around stopping human-targeted attacks is crucial for healthcare institutions, not just to protect confidential patient data but also to maintain the highest quality of medical care,” said Ryan Witt, chair, Healthcare Customer Advisory Board at Proofpoint. “This report underlines that cyber safety is patient safety; protecting healthcare systems and medical data from cyber attacks is critical to ensuring continuity in patient care and avoiding disruption of critical services. And while security awareness is foundational, driving sustained behavior change through programs tailored to specific roles and responsibilities will help support both organizational and patient safety.”
