MEF CONNECTS Wholesale 2024, now in its sixth consecutive year, was dedicated to exploring future trajectories of the wholesale market. Here,  MEF Member Haud share the key takeaways from their session on strategies and tech to help safeguard the messaging chain from malicious bots – the event itself is available to watch in full now.

As technology advances, bots have become an integral part of our daily lifestyle, from customer service chatbots and virtual assistants to automated social media interactions.

As these automated systems and bots become increasingly prevalent, maintaining the integrity and authenticity of communication channels has never been more critical.

The Cost of Artificially Inflated Traffic (AIT) for Businesses

With the latest advances in technology, especially AI (Artificial Intelligence), bots have become more sophisticated and capable of mimicking user behaviour, making the solution more complex. Data from Mobilesquared shows several types of threats that currently exist. In 2023, it was reported that 5% of the reported traffic accounted for artificial traffic inflation, which cost brands $1.16 billion. The combination of artificial traffic inflation and high termination rates impacts international terminating traffic by as much as 50% in some markets.

By initiating next-generation technology that assures A2P messaging, including ensuring subscriber authenticity, validating authentic messaging, and boosting messaging revenue through monetising messaging assurance, we can safeguard long-term A2P and P2A business opportunities.

GLF reported that 60% of carriers say they have experienced a “high” volume of artificially inflated traffic. We look into the four main concerns on the value chain between the brands and the subscriber, as well as the four most common types of AIT that we as an industry combat.

Combating Malicious Bots and Safeguarding the Messaging Chain

What can be done to combat these malicious bots and safeguard the messaging chain? In this session from MEF Connects Wholesale, HAUD experts Ron Bonnici, VP Product, and Joanna Kuligowska, Head of Global Market Intelligence, discuss the strategies and technologies that can help us combat these malicious bots and safeguard the messaging chain.

AIT is costing businesses significant operational expenditures, expediting the erosion of A2P revenues, and driving the evolution of bypassing mobile operators in the future.

By initiating next-generation technology that assures A2P messaging, including ensuring subscriber authenticity, validating authentic messaging, and boosting messaging revenue through monetising messaging assurance, we can safeguard long-term A2P and P2A business opportunities. HAUD’s solution enables businesses to effectively defeat the bot and maintain the integrity of the messaging chain.

By addressing these issues head-on with advanced technologies and strategic measures, the A2P monetisation industry can continue to thrive and deliver secure, authentic messaging services to all stakeholders involved.
