People have always gossiped about work. The difference now is that many of those conversations take place on mobile messaging apps – where they can be stolen or leaked. It’s a major headache. But it can be solved, says Anurag Lal, CEO of Infinite Convergence. He talked the MEF Minute…

In the last few years, ‘bring your own device’ has become a big thing. Employees like having the freedom to do their work with hardware products they feel comfortable with.

But in reality ‘bring your own device’ often also means ‘bring your own software’. And that can be a real problem  for employers. Especially when it comes to communications software such as mobile messaging apps.

“What we’re seeing is a complete change in user behaviour,” says Anurag Lal, CEO of Infinite Convergence. “People really appreciate the power of messaging in their personal lives.

“But once this gets into the business process, that’s where the problems start: mobile messaging as presented to consumers is inherently insecure.”

Last year, Infinite Convergence revealed the extent of this problem. In conjunction with 451 Research, it found that nearly three in four employees use consumer messaging apps for business purposes.

Despite the obvious security implications of this, the study found only nine per cent of companies ban the use of messaging services that have not been approved.

To remedy the problem, Infinite Convergence created NetSfere. It’s a secure messaging platform that encrypts all messages at rest and in transit. Employers can use an admin portal to decide who uses it and what features they can access. They can also wipe data when a person leaves for another job.
