Patrick ParodiWith the 12th annual Meffys, supported by F-Secure, open for entries and set to return to London, we are taking a look at some of last year’s winners to find out what winning a Meffy meant to them and what they’ve been up to since they celebrated their win.

This week, 2014’s winner of the prestigious Consumer Trust AwardThe Wireless Registry fill us in on their year so far, with CEO, Patrick Parodi.

What did The Wireless Registry win a Meffy for?

In collaboration with The Future of Privacy Forum, The Wireless Registry has created the first universal opt-out for Mobile Locations Analytics. We have successfully signed up 15 industry-leading companies to participate in the Smart Store Privacy Code of Conduct since its launch in February 2014. This represents tens of thousands of physical (retail and other) locations.

“As businesses create new ways to connect with their customers, consumer privacy may take a back seat to innovation. In this case, an industry came together to give consumers control over their privacy in a way that is as innovative as our technology itself”

Why do you think the judges picked your entry?

The proliferation of the Internet of Things (IoT) has ushered in new wave of concern over consumer privacy. As businesses create new ways to connect with their customers, consumer privacy may take a back seat to innovation. In this case, an industry came together to give consumers control over their privacy in a way that is as innovative as our technology itself.

The Wireless Registry has been working on a Proximal intelligence Engine (PiE) which enables brands and app developers to tap into actionable insights based on the detection, registration, and identification of wireless signals. These proximal observations allow our partners to better understand and engage with mobile consumers, all in a privacy sensitive way.

What are your plans for the year ahead?

We are on track to complete the first Proximal Intelligence Engine pilot program this year.  Through strategic partnerships, we hope to unleash PiE and bring brands and app developers closer to their mobile users.
