BaseboneLogoHorzWhiteCMYKIn our 5 minutes with profiles, MEF members talk about their business, their aspirations for the future and the wider mobile industry. This week Michael Holmqvist, CEO introduces UK based mobile media & tech company, Basebone.

What is Basebone?

Basebone is a fast growing Mobile Media and Technology Company, headquartered in London with offices in 3 countries. The group is today active in 10 countries across 4 continents and we are constantly looking out for new opportunities. Our strength is our people. We are a diverse team from different cultures and backgrounds, but we all share a common vision, a passion for what we do and a ‘nothing-is-impossible’ attitude to business.

At the core of Basebone is our proprietary information system. We believe technology to be the critical factor in the race to succeed in this constantly changing industry. Innovation alone is not enough to accomplish this so we are betting on having a superior technology that will reduce reaction time and help us capitalise on new opportunities.

What does Basebone do?

The group focuses on three main areas; Mobile Entertainment, Mobile Aggregation and Mobile Marketing. We buy online traffic from agencies and we trade traffic from publishers. We provide mobile billing and messaging solutions to enterprises and we operate some of the coolest mobile entertainment offerings on the market. We often partner with industry leaders to develop new business.

“It is said that everything that can will go mobile and there is a lot of truth to that. Mobile is instant, dynamic and constantly evolving. “

How long have you been in business and what growth have you seen?

We have been in the industry for over a decade now and have witnessed several ups and downs. It is a volatile industry and we have learned that to succeed you have to be flexible and ready for anything. We moulded the company to do just that and have enjoyed tremendous growth year on year since inception.

What is the most exciting area of Mobile?

It is said that everything that can will go mobile and there is a lot of truth to that. Mobile is instant, dynamic and constantly evolving. This business is not for everyone but for those of us who love fast paced environments this is as good as it gets. We are making history and this is just the beginning.

What is the biggest threat to Mobile?

Reliance on any technology is always going to raise the security concerns and in particular for Mobile. Our mobile devices often contain more personal information than our PC´s and this is only going to increase.  People underestimate how easily this information can fall in the wrong hands so we need to raise awareness and continue to improve security.

Where do you see Basebone in 5 years?

We are proud of what we have achieved so far but recognise that there is much work to do to meet the ambitious targets that we have set for ourselves. The truth is that no one knows exactly where Mobile is going. In the next few years we aim to further develop our international footprint, in particular, in developing markets where there is significant growth potential and we are well experienced. We will continue to enhance our product offerings and make significant investments in our technology.

Basebone will develop relationships with partners, carriers, regulators and other market leaders to achieve common goals and to help drive the future developments that will ultimately shape the industry.
